Young Fabula

Young Fabula
This year's festival marks the inception of the sub-theme Young Fabula. The theme is centred on events for children and youth. We are very much aware about the fact that lower secondary school pupils and upper secondary school students do not represent just a target group that is very difficult to access when it comes to the topic of reading. Moreover, they represent a target group that is probably most neglected in this very regard. Therefore we decided to provide more attention to the interests of these particular groups of readers from here on in. The first step comes in the shape of a book by Slovenian writers connected to each year's respective festival focus. This year the book will be dedicated to younger readers. The stories for the book were contributed by Žiga X. Gombač, Barbara Simoniti, Desa Muck, Milan Dekleva, and Mojca Kumerdej (with the foreword by Prof. dr. Milena Mileva Blažič).

The book will be titled Moč Lažnega [The Power of False]. The launch of the book will be accompanied by a literature contest for lower secondary school pupils (grades 7 to 9) in the scope of which pupils will be motivated to write a 'Letter to the Author' based on the respective author's story. An exhibition of selected letters will be presented at the Cankarjev dom Culture Centre between 5 March 2015 and 12 March 2015. The winning submissions will be announced at an event hosted by Boštjan Gorenc – Pižama at the Štih Hall of the Cankarjev dom Culture Centre on 4 March 2015 at 1:00 PM. The co-authors of the book Moč Lažnega [The Power of False] are also scheduled to be in attendance. The winners of the literature contest will be selected by a jury consisting of Gaja Kos, Tina Deu, and Špela Pavlič. The jury will convene on 26 February 2015.

A literary workshop for upper secondary school students hosted by writer Gabriela Babnik will take place at Gimanzija Poljane. The workshop participants will become acquainted with the short story and the novel format respectively and write their own short stories influenced by Clément Bénechs novel L'été slovène [Slovenian Summer]. Gabriela Babnik will also select contributions by workshop participants for publication.

Gimnazija Poljane will also host an interesting conversation about literature and literary endeavours with three exciting guests, recipients of the EU Literature Prize Gabriela Babnik, Nataša Kramberger, and Lidija Dimkovska.

*The programme for upper secondary school students is undertaken in cooperation with the European project ELit - Literature House Europe, funded by the Creative Europe programme.

The Young Fabula programme will also feature a fun toy-exchanging and storytelling event for the youngest ones at Breg on Sunday, 1 March 2015, and a pop-up photography exhibition at the DLUL Gallery (Breg 22) that will be on display until 8 March 2015.

Young Fabula is also modelled as a programme offering "opportunities to the young". Young Fabula is intended to provide young adults who are about to enter the labour market with professional experience (cover design; public speaking at literary events – this year with students of the Ljubljana Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT); festival experience ...).

All literature enthusiasts welcome!
