World Literatures – Fabula 2012

In 2012, festival World Literatures - Fabula will bring to Ljubljana top-class literature, prominent writers and interesting side book programme for the ninth time in a row.
The festival will feature major authors from Slovenia and the rest of the world, who will discuss their literary activities and read form their works on literary readings in Klub Cankarjevega doma. The festival guests are Hanif Kureishi, Leena Krohn, Amitav Ghosh, Mikhail Shishkin, Dušan Čater, Mojca Kumerdej, Andrej Skubic, Suzana Tratnik and Goran Vojnović. Their visits will be accompanied by the publications of their works in Slovenian translation. Besides literary performances of the guest authors which will, as each year so far, constitute the central festival events, we will prepare a diverse programme targeting different generations of readers, for the principal motto of the festival is the openness and accessibility to all generations and tastes.
This year's professional focus of the festival is on socially committed literature, which constitutes a considerable part of the global as well as Slovenian literature of the last two decades. The round table discussion with acknowledged Slovenian experts will also consider the period of socially committed prose between the two world wars. The international symposium will be devoted to Franz Kafka, one of the most interesting and intriguing classics of world literature. His works were the bases for films by globally renowned directors, e.g. Orson Welles, while his characters were acted by major stars.
A part of the programme will be devoted to the youngest audience brought to the magic world of reading and books with the help of fairly tale narrators. Secondary school students will be invited to write short stories, the best of which will be awarded. We did not, however, forget those prevented to visit the festival because of their hard life situation. Thus we will send well-known theatre actors on a visit to some hospitals, homes for the elderly and crisis centres.

27 February will mark the reopening of the door of the festival World Literatures - Fabula, and you are invited to enter the literature world with us.
