World Literatures – Fabula 2013

In 2014, as in previous years, the reading enthusiasts will be able to welcome spring in the company of several magnificent authors from abroad and Slovenia and enjoy a vast literary programme targeting all generations.

The guests of this year's festival will be the acknowledged and esteemed authors: Péter Esterházy, Juan Goytisolo, Jacqueline Raoul-Duval, Thomas Brussig, Gabriela Babnik, Nejc Gazvoda, Alojz Ihan, Vesna Lemaić and Miha Mazzini. At this occasion their work will also be published in Slovenian and the translated books available at each festival event as well as in most Slovenian bookshops at the highly affordable price of 5 EUR.

The festival focus Faces of Freedom Revealed (Razkriti obrazi svobode) will take place at numerous Ljubljana venues, including the Cankarjev dom Culture Centre, the Trubar House of Literature, Kavarna Union and the Konzorcij Bookstore. The focus will feature debates with interesting and qualified guests, who will examine freedom - this nowadays so rarely used and often misused notion.

Simultaneously, you will also be able to view the various interpretations of freedom at several film and theatre performances. Slovenska kinoteka will show four hit films, which, each in its own way, unveil freedom.

Part of the programme will also cater to the youngest audiences, led by experienced storytellers into the world of books and reading. We have in particular focused on those who usually cannot attend such events and so the main festival events in the Cankarjev dom Cultural Centre will be adapted to the needs of those with any kind of disabilities, making possible for everyone to partake in the festival happenings.

We therefore kindly invite you to take part in this year's, already 11th, Fabula Festival, taking place between 26thFebruary and 8thMarch 2014. These ten festival days announce that the focus of the cultural happening in various literary parts of Ljubljana and across Slovenia falls, once again, on literature.
